Snoqualmie, WA
As with many of the early towns in the Pacific Northwest, Snoqualmie was originally settled as a logging encampment. The natural resources in the area were well known to local native populations. One of the natural wonders of Washington State is Snoqualmie Falls. A relic leftover from glacial melt off. These falls have been a destination for nature lovers since they were discovered. They have also been a destination for engineers. The first hydroelectric plant was built in the 1890’s by Charles Baker and is still in use by Puget Sound Energy today.
Officially, the incorporation of the town of “Snoqualmie Falls” as the city of Snoqualmie into King County happened in 1903. However, growth in Snoqualmie was incredibly slow until recently, around 11 people per year until 1990. The city is currently undergoing annexation and development that is drawing in a huge influx of new residents.
