Redmond, WA - “Bicycle Capital of the Northwest”
The abundant natural resources in the area brought in many loggers and fisherman and along with them merchants and traders. The logging industry in particular expanded significantly when Eastern Railway built a station in the middle of town. The original plat for was drawn up in 1891 and after finally reaching the requisite population of 300, Redmond, originally known as Salmonberg, was finally incorporated into King County on December 31st, 1912.
Redmond didn’t really experience its major growth spurt until after World War II. The completion of the Evergreen Floating Bridge over Lake Washington allowed Redmond to flourish as a suburb of Seattle. In 1978, the US Census Bureau named Redmond Washington State’s fastest growing city. Since, Redmond has experienced several booms. Namely, the tech boom of the 1980’s and 90’s. Today Redmond is home to several tech companies. Microsoft is a major part of Redmond’s economy and culture providing over 35,000 jobs to the area.

Why should I move to Redmond?
The City of Redmond’s local businesses and culture combined with the proximity to major metropolitan areas provides for not only quality of life, but also economic growth and opportunities that are unheard of in many of today’s real estate markets, including Seattle and the Greater Puget Sound area.
The largest employer in Redmond, by far, is Microsoft which moved its headquarters to Redmond in 1986. Redmond’s access to Interstate 405 allows for easy commuting to the two bridges across Lake Washington to Seattle, or north just above the lake to Northern Seattle, Lynnwood and Everett. Take I-405 South to Bellevue, Renton and the Lower East Side. Redmond is just a short shuttle ride from SeaTac Airport.
The housing in Redmond is widely varied from affordable and luxury, single family and condominiums, vintage and new, and everything in between. There is something for everyone in Redmond.
What sort of fun things are there to do in Redmond?
Aside from being a tech industry hot zone, Redmond is full of fun and exciting experiences and activities. Redmond is home to Redmond Town Center which hosts many festivals, concerts and food sampling events. The Eastside Symphony, the Second Story Repertory Theatre Company and the Redmond Performing Arts Center all offer a fantastic mix of cultural experiences. The Old Redmond Fire House is a great place to take in shows from upcoming independent artists. There are new restaurants, cafes and pubs opening every day.
Also, Redmond is right next to Lake Washington! Lake Washington is the largest lake in King County and 2nd largest in the state. It is a destination for many. At over 22 miles long, the lake offers an endless amount of recreational possibilities. From the floating bridge, you can watch the Blue Angels practice for their part in the annual hydroplane races that take place during Seafair Weekend.
If you are an outdoor enthusiast, Redmond is just an short drive from Stevens or Snoqualmie Pass Ski and Recreation areas. The Puget Sound is 30 minutes away and the Pacific Ocean isn’t much further. Redmond hosts several festivals, markets and fairs that go on throughout the year. There are several golf courses including Redmond Ridge and Willow’s Run that are close by. Hiking, biking, fishing, golfing, kayaking, skiing, camping, boating, dining, shopping. The list goes on and on!

Redmond is part of the Lake Washington School District which is the 5th largest school district in the State of Washington. Lake Washington School District has almost 30,000 students with 31 elementary schools, 13 middle schools and 9 high schools. It is their mission statement that each student will graduate prepared to lead a rewarding, responsible life as a contributing member of our community and greater society. Lake Washington School District has been nationally recognized for their scholastic excellence.
