Bellevue - “City in a Park”

The City of Bellevue wasn’t always the bustling metropolis it is today.  It began as a quiet rural community with little development.  The area was originally settled by William Meydenbauer and Aaron Mercer, whose  names are synonymous with many parts of the downtown area today.  Bellevue was incorporated into King County on March 21st, 1953 as a third class city.  At this time it was what most would consider a bedroom community.  It wasn’t until a second bridge was opened across Lake Washington that Bellevue started to experience major growth.  It has since experienced several building booms and is now one of the largest cities in Washington State.  With several high rise buildings at its core, the still young City of Bellevue is now a major power house in the commercial as well as residential real estate market.

Moving to Bellevue, Washington

Why Should I Move to Bellevue, WA?

With its lush, green, year round vegetation, moderate oceanic climate, centralized location within major tech industry hubs, progressive city management and multitude of local and nearby activities, Bellevue Washington is one of the most desirable locations to live in the northwest.

Bellevue has no shortage of walkable parks, entertainment, dining and recreation activities.  Bordered by Lake Washington to the West and Lake Sammamish to the East, Bellevue’s wealth of waterfront real estate is unparalleled in Washington State.

The city’s name itself means “Beautiful View” in French.  Bellevue’s hillsides, as well as several strategically placed downtown high rises, enjoy views of Lake Washington, the Cascade Mountains, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountain range.  Not to mention the endless amounts of greenery covering Bellevue’s meandering hillsides.

Bellevue’s economy is booming with many major tech company hubs located in, or very close to the city.  Bellevue enjoys immediate proximity to Redmond, home of companies such as Microsoft and Nintendo of America as well as direct freeway access to downtown Seattle who hosts a multitude of avenues of employment including Amazon and Starbucks.  There is no shortage of opportunities for personal, family as well as economic growth in Bellevue.

What Fun Things Is There To Do in Bellevue?

Downtown Bellevue hosts an amazing array of walkable activity.  From cafés, pubs and wine bars to beaches, trails and city parks.  The city of Bellevue even has a charity called Pianos in Parks that allows people to play pianos which have been donated to the parks making these lovely settings even more beautiful.  Not far from downtown, Bellevue Mall and Crossroads Mall are both excellent shopping and entertainment areas.  Nearby are zoos, cultural arts and historical museums.

Lake Washington is the largest lake in King County and 2nd largest in the state.  It is a destination for many.  At over 22 miles long, the lake offers an endless amount of recreational possibilities.  From several parks situated along the waterfront, you can watch the Blue Angels practice for their part in the annual hydroplane races that take place during Seafair Weekend.

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, Bellevue is just an hour’s drive from Snoqualmie Pass Ski and Recreation area.  The Puget Sound is 30 minutes away and the Pacific Ocean isn’t much further.  Bellevue hosts several festivals, markets and fairs that go on throughout the year.  There are a myriad of golf courses including The Golf Club at Newcastle that are close by.  Hiking, biking, fishing, golfing, kayaking, skiing, camping, boating, dining, shopping.  The list goes on and on!

Bellevue Schools and Education

Bellevue School District is arguably the most desirable in the State of Washington.  They are nationally recognized for their academic excellence, test scores and scholastic and extracurricular programming.  The amount of individuals with a 4 or more year degree in Bellevue is more than double the national average.  This is partly due to local and nearby colleges and Universities such as the University of Washington and Bellevue Community College’s influence on the area.
